The white spotted slug snake is a beautiful and gentle species that is known from lowland rainforest, though it can occur in higher elevations. It occurs throughout Peninsular Malaysia but is widespread in Southeast Asia, being found in Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar all the way up to Hong Kong and China. The body is purplish grey with a series of transversal white and black spots arranged as irregular bands. Juveniles have an orange to red collar that eventually changes to white or yellow in adulthood. The ventrals are white with generous black speckles, especially on the ventrolateral area. This snake tends to curl into a tight ball when feeling threatened.
