Water Snakes
Southeast Asia
Water snakes are an interesting but often overlooked genus of snakes in Southeast Asia. These aquatic snakes are rear-fanged, making them mildly venomous. The typical feature of water snakes usually include a large, roundish or blocky head, irridescent scales and a stout body. Though aquatic in nature, most species sometimes come out on land to reach other bodies of water. Their primary diet consists of fish and frogs. Some species are found in freshwater areas deep inland, such as streams and rivers in the rainforest, while others only inhabit coastal areas and mangrove swamps.
