Vertebral Slug Snake

Pareas vertebralis

The vertebral slug snake is a highland species that occurs in hilly and montane rainforest. In Southeast Asia, this species with a pronounced vertebral ridge, occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra. Small and docile, this species is very common and can be found hanging or curled up on plants, especially after heavy rainfall. This snake can be found in two colour forms; they can either be a solid dark brown colour, or have a yellowish body with numerous thin and jagged dark bands. From the observation of various specimens of different ages, this should be true for adults or juveniles. The eyes are orange in juveniles, fading to red in adulthood.
