This small reed snake can be found throughout Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Java, Sumatra and Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is fossorial but emerges from the ground after periods of heavy rainfall. It can be found in lowland to upper-level rainforest, but it is rarely seen, though common. The dorsum and sides are black or dark brown with two broad yellow ventrolateral stripes. The ventrals are white with or without black bands. The scales have an irridescent sheen when pointed under bright light. This secretive reed snake feeds on earth worms and skinks in the wild.
