The tree hole frog is a common inhabitant of hilly and highland rainforest. They can also be found in secondary forest or agricultural areas. This tiny arboreal frog can be heard calling rather loudly at night from the water-filled hollows of trees, stems and shoots with a loud whistling sounds. It is brown in colour with orange or yellowish patches. The back and sides are covered with numerous rough tubercles while the body is stout and the head small in comparison. Juveniles are very brightly coloured and often found perched on broad leaves. In Southeast Asia, this species is restricted to Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia.
