Amphibians ~ Other Frogs ~ Spotted Litter Frog The spotted litter frog is an unsual-looking species that inhabits the floor of lowland rainforest. The body is stout but the legs are rather long and thin in comparison. Its distinguishing feature are its large bulbous eyes with bright orange to red irises. The top of the body and flanks are usually greyish brown while the belly is pale white. Males are smaller than females. The spotted litter frog also has a peculiar habit of crawling on the ground using its front and hind legs instead of typical leaping employed by most other frog species. When handled, the spotted litter frog will also crouch into a prone position with the legs held tight to the body. This terrestial species consumes insects in the wild. In Southeast Asia, this frog is native to Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Indonesia and Thailand. |
