Copper Cheeked Frog Rana chalconata |
The rough sided frog is a moderately large species that occupies swampy habitats in primary and secondary forest from lowland to mid-level elevations, including disturbed areas. The body is brown with dark blotches across the back and flanks. The dorsum has a slightly rough texture while the hind legs are barred.
This species can be identified by its large reddish brown eyes and dark brown tympanum with a light coloured spot in the center. The belly is pale with drab dark spots while lips are banded in dark brown and white. It has a loud call which some say resembles a dog's bark. In Southeast Asia, the rough sided frog occurs in Southern Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and Indonesia.
