Snakes ~ Keelbacks ~ Red Mountain Keelback
The red mountain keelback is another uncommon keelback species found in watered habitats of mid to upper-level rainforest. The body and ventrals are cast in a red hue while a broad but irregular olive stripe covers the dorsum, with a row of black patches. This species may be endemic to Peninsular Malaysia in Southeast Asia.
The flanks also have a row of smaller patches that occur laterally. yellowish stripe, dotted with alternating black dashes, extends from the base of the neck to the end of the tail. The head is brownish and the labials is patterned with poorly-defined whitish scales. The red mountain keelback hunts frogs and lizards in the wild and lays around 4 eggs per clutch. |
