Red Bellied Frog

Phrynella pulchra

The red bellied frog is an uncommon species with attractive markings. The back is marked with irregular reddish brown patches bordered by rough lighter textures. The lower dorsum is mottled with greenish shades and infused with orange red near the base. The belly is reddish orange, which gives its name. This cryptic frog is rarely seen due to its excellent camouflage and arboreal habitat. When handled, it can secrete a sticky substance, otherwise, not much else is known about its ecology, but it is believed to live and breed in tree hollows and holes. In Southeast Asia, this frog can be found in Indonesia (Sumatra), Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand.
