Pied Mossy Frog

Theloderma asperum

The pied mossy frog resembles bird droppings at first glance, but its appearance is suited for blending in with a lichen and moss-covered tree surface. This species occurs widely over Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sumatra and Laos. A common species, it is found mostly in hilly to highland rainforest. The pied mossy frog is creamish brown in colour with a dark patch of heightened skin folds on the middle of the back. The legs are dark brown in colour but the vent along with part of the joints around the tibia and femur are white. The irises are dark red while the ventrals are marbled with greyish white and black tones.
