Narrow Mouthed Frogs

Southeast Asia

Narrow-mouthed frogs are frogs under the Microhylid family, which are characterised by their small size, sharp snout, stout body, short front limbs and general triangular appearance. These frogs are mostly terrestial, sometimes fossorial, and live close to streams and pools of water in lowland to montane rainforest. Periods of rainfall often bring these frogs out to the open on the forest floor, while at other times, remain hidden under leaf litter or small burrows. A few of these species are arboreal and breed in tree holes. Narrow-mouthed frogs generally have specialist insect diets, such as feeding on ants, and have chorus-like calls.
