Lizards ~ Agamids ~ Mountain Horned Lizard
The mountain horned lizard (Acanthosauras armata) has a preference for mid to upper-level rainforest, but it can be found sometimes in the lowlands as well. The mountain horned lizard gets its name from the characteristic spines protruding from above its eyebrows. A row of spikes also lines its spine all the way to the lower body.
It is diurnal and feeds on insects in the wild. They are often found perched vertically on shoots of tall plants up to a few-meters high. The colour varies from brownish shades to green with yellow patches across its lateral area. They can also change the depth of their body colouration under distress to darker colours. This species occurs in Southeast Asia from Myanmar through Thailand and down to Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia (Sumatra). |
