The monocled cobra is an aggressive snake found in lowland to highland rainforests, but also near disturbed habitats, especially paddy fields and agricultural plantations. They occur mostly in the north and central region of Peninsular Malaysia, but also widely across North Asia including Thailand, China, Vietnam and Cambodia. The Monocled Cobra is easily differentiated from other cobras by its 'eye' patterning behind its hood. The colour is highly variable, ranging from black to yellow, with occasional 'calico' patterning occuring in some specimens. It feeds on rats, lizards, frogs and other snakes in the wild.
