The Malayan banded wolf snake is a common terrestial snake found in lowland to mid-level rainforest across Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Juveniles are attractively marked with white bands across a dark brown or black body. There is usually a small dark dot on the forehead as well. This patterning mimics the highly venomous Malayan krait, so caution and knowledge must be applied to differentiate between the two in the field. As the Malayan banded wolf snake matures, it will lose this banded patterning and become a solid dark colour. It hunts lizards and frogs during the night, where it is active even at twilight hours.
