Mahogany Frog

Rana luctuosa

This frog is a terrestial species that is fond of muddy pools and swamps in lowland to highland rainforest, but also occurs near agricultural areas. Nocturnal, the mahogany frog makes a shrill 'whooo' sound similar to a cat's meow. The dorsum is a brilliant mahogany with well-defined dorsolateral stripes running from the snouth, through the eyes, and all the way down to the back, seperating the back from the greyish sides. The limbs are whitish grey with irregular dark banding. Females are more robust and larger than males. This frog is endemic to Malaysia, both to the Peninsular and Borneo region (Sarawak).
