Microhyla annectens

The Larut Rice Frog is a tiny species that measures not more than 1.5 cm. This frog is found mostly in highland and montane forest areas. It appears to be endemic to Peninsular Malaysia in Southeast Asia, but there are unconfirmed reports of this species being found in Thailand as well.

Like most microhylid frogs, the Larut rice frog is terrestial, congregating in large numbers around stagnant and shallow pools of water during the night, especially after rainfall. Males can be heard croaking loudly, with a duck-like quack. It thrives in both pristine and disturbed areas and lays eggs that stick on grass shoots overhanging water.
