The Jasper cat snake is a small and slender nocturnal species found in lowland to mid-level rainforests. The body is brown with dark rough banding and splotches. A row of white spots runs along the ventrolaterals while the ventrals taper from plain yellowish (neck) to dusty white (tail). It is a specialised egg eater, though it also feeds on lizards and snakes in the wild. When threatened, the jasper cat snake flares up its throat and body with air, a defensive mechanism to appear larger. It lays between four to five eggs; neonates resemble adults. In Southeast Asia, this species also occurs in Southern Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Borneo.
