The Jasper cat snake is a nocturnal cat snake species found in lowland to mid-level rainforests. The entire body is cast in a brown hue with rich speckles of black-brown dots and splotches. They have ra row of white spots dotting the ventrolateral areas while the ventrals are yellowish. Although widely distributed across the Peninsular, they are not regarded as common. It also shares some physical features with slug-eating snakes.

When threatened, the jasper cat snake can inflate its throat and body to appear bigger, similiar to the defensive behaviour of dog-toothed cat snakes. They have been reported to lay up to 6 eggs in termite nests up trees. They are also known to hunt geckos in the wild. A captive specimen laid 5 eggs which hatched successfully. Neonates were miniature versions of adults. In Southeast Asia, this species occurs in Southern Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Borneo.
