Hills in Malaysia

Southeast Asia

The hills of Malaysia in Southeast Asia offer no less enjoyment for nature enthusiasts than their higher cousins, the mountains. Some of these hills may hide limestone caves or happen to be made of pure crystal quartz, such as Bukit Tabur in Kuala Lumpur. Depending on the terrain, some of these hills can offer a challenging climb, though most of them are located near residential or urban areas, providing easy to moderate hiking for city folks.

These hills can also hide a surprising amount of wildlife, but many are under threat by hillslope development, especially those that are in city areas. Some hills have been turned into an 'island', with surrounding forest at their base having been cleared for constructing homes. Hills that are located among the valleys and mountains of the Titiwangsa Range are under far less duress, but equal protection needs to be accorded to them in order to safeguard these important natural treasures.
