File Snake

Acrochordus granulatus

The file snake is a coastal species that occurs throughout Southeast Asia, and is often mistaken for venomous sea kraits due to its bold patterning. Like the elephant trunk snake, it has a loose pelt, which is soft and covered with granular scales that gives it a raspy, but gentle texture. The colour ranges from a bluish to olive grey with alternating white or soft-coloured bands from the head to the tail. It feeds on fish and eels in the wild, and seems to have a docile temperament, even when handled.
