Fanged Frogs

Southeast Asia

Fanged frogs of the Dicroglossidae group were previously lumped together with Ranidae but are now considered a distinct genera of frogs. As the name suggests, these frogs possess a fang-like projection at the lower jaw. Some of the species contained in this group can grow to very large sizes. Fanged frogs are typical ground dwellers that stay close to the vicinity of streams. They are opportunistic feeders and will eat anything they can catch. The largest of these species make for good eating, as they can weight up to a kilo or more. Still, overpoaching for food has resulted in less of the specimens attaining their famed giant size.
