The dog toothed cat snake is a long and slender species known from lowland to highland rainforest. Its base colour ranges from creamish to dark brown, but a melanistic form also occurs. A series of dark wavy bands (yellow in melanistic specimens) wrap around the body, becoming more frequent and crossbar in shape towards the tail. It feeds primarily on birds and eggs, but snakes, lizards and rodents have also been reported. It uses its remarkably thin but long tail to immobilise bitten prey by constricting, as it injects venom from its rear-fangs. In Southeast Asia, its range extends to Singapore, Southern Thailand, Indonesia and Borneo.
