The dark eared tree frog is a large species from lowland rainforest with a similar appearance to Polypedates leucomystax, but it can be differentiated by larger eyes, solid-coloured tympanum and longer digits. The base colour is usually yellowish to reddish brown, but the pattern can be variable, ranging from being mottled with dark patches or completely solid. A row of dark spots may be present along the flanks while the belly is whitish; the underside of the limbs pale. A dark greenish patch runs from the eye, through the tympanum, gradually tapering down to the lateral region just above the arm. This species occurs in Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia and the Philippines.
