Copper Cheeked Frog Rana chalconata |
The copper cheeked frog is a highly common species that can be found in secondary to primary rainforest, from lowland to upper-level rainforest. This species can easily be identified by its distinct dark brown tympanum. The colour is highly variable; some individuals may be completely green, or green on dorsum and brown on flanks or totally brownish. The lips and belly are white.
Some small spots may be visible on the back. The copper cheeked frog is nocturnal and can be found perched on vegetation and rocks along streams. A recent paper proposed that Rana chalconata specimens from Peninsular Malaysia be classified as Rana labialis. In Southeast Asia, this species occurs in Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia and Singapore.
