Collared Reed Snake

Calamaria pavimentata

This tiny reed snake is distributed all the way from Japan down to Peninsular Malaysia. The collared reed snake has a pointed head with a yellow nuchal collar in adults (reddish in juveniles) and often, two pairs of brownish spots, one at the base and another near the tip of the tail. The general complexion is dark brown, with a irridiscent sheen typical of the reed snake genus. This fossorial snake occupies lowland and hilly rainforest, where it presumably hunts earthworms. In Southeast Asia, this snake is found in Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmmar.
