Amphibians ~ Caecillians Caecillians are a rarely-seen burrowing amphibian species. They spend their entire lives underground, only appearing out of the earth after heavy rainfall, when excess water has flooded their burrows. It occurs in lowland to mid-level rainforest. The Caecillian can be identified by its dark body and yellow ventrolateral stripes. The eyes are tiny while the ventrals are bright purple. This species is believed to feed on earthworms and fossorial insects in the wild. Otherwise, its ecology is poorly-known. |
