Bronzeback Snakes
Southeast Asia
Bronzeback snakes are one of the most widely distributed arboreal snake species across Southeast Asia, found in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Borneo, Thailand and other parts of the region. The Dendrelaphis genus is arboreal, diurnal and slender-bodied, with a very active disposition. It is believed that some of the bronzeback species possess rear-fangs, but that continues to be debated till today. In Malaysia, they are known locally as 'Ular Lidi' in the Malay language, which refers to their thin stature, similiar to the texture of the wood used to make a type of traditional broom. Bronzebacks feed on lizards, frogs and possibly small birds in the wild.
